Dear Discussion Group Members,
I would like to wish a warm welcome to all of you who are visiting this discussion group, whether it is just a one time curiosity or a daily event.
When we first started this site, most of you who visited this site were very familiar with the program as well as my approach to autism before joining the group. Over time we have had many more individuals joining our discussion site, some of whom are familiar with the program and others who may have heard bits of information but are not really sure what to expect.
This is likely to be a different experience than you have ever had on any other discussion group. I expect that you will be surprised by the personal support and interactions, from me as well as from other members of this site. You will probably be overwhelmed with the volume of information this site contains and a bit daunted by it at first. And, I think you will be touched by the level of caring, love and hope that you will learn to expect from all of us.
My approach to autism, as well as other chronic neurological issues is somewhat different than others in these fields. I do not believe in telling you what to do; I believe in teaching you to decide what to do. I believe that knowledge is power and that the more well informed you are about the processes going on in the body that you are in a better position to make informed choices as to supplementation as well as the path to health and wellness. For this reason I spend a lot of time talking about the "why" behind a choice or a suggestion as well as looking at a great deal of biochemical test data to help you to learn how to monitor and follow progress on this program. We also rely heavily on molecular biology to help to guide you on the choices that you make. The tools that we use are not meant to replace the need to consult with your doctor. They are meant instead to serve as additional tools to help you while you work in conjunction with the doctor of your choice. I fully recognize that many of you may be working with doctors who are not as familiar with this program. This is why I continue to volunteer my time to help to answer questions that arise as you work your way through the program. I also offer the option of commenting on tests that are run through our office. This is another means of giving you additional feedback to help you understand the implications of the results of biochemical tests that are run to monitor progress of the program.
I expect only what I am willing to give, so I try to lead by example. I am willing to work daily to make personal comments on biochemical tests, to answer emails, to read and research to continue to add to the knowledge base until we have the answers we need for the recovery of every child and adult. I do not only answer technical questions, but I respond to almost every positive email that is posted, because I feel that emotional support is just as important as scientific knowledge on the journey to recovery. I share from the heart as well as the mind, I keep it positive and pay it forward every day and I expect no less from each of you.
I also have a zero tolerance policy on negativity. I would like to take another moment of your time to explain why I feel so strongly about no negativity. I see my role on this discussion group as answering questions and giving suggestions to help you implement the program through interactions with your own doctor. I donate a tremendous amount of time to this discussion group as well as to reading and doing further research, constantly trying to help all of you on the path to recovery for yourself or your children. Taking time to deal with even one negative post and the fallout from the post diverts my time and attention from what the rest of this group is needing and expecting from me. It is not fair to other discussion group members who have posted questions and have test results awaiting comments to have a delay in much anticipated feedback from me because my focus has been diverted to address negativity. I also feel that negativity brings down the entire tenor of the discussion on this site. I prefer to keep it positive and focus on what we can do to move forward toward recovery.
I believe that autism, as well as other chronic conditions are multifactorial in nature, compromising an underlying genetic susceptibility with an infectious disease component as well as environmental toxins. I feel that it requires time and patience to slowly unravel the pieces of this complex puzzle for each individual. This is a marathon it is not a sprint, and while I do not promise any magic bullets I do promise to be here to help you to understand the pieces of this puzzle and to continue to work to find any missing pieces that we need, even if it is only needed to help a single child or one individual adult.
When I sign each post 'with love and hope' it is because I truly believe that if we all work together with love and hope and knowledge that we will be able to reach the point we would like for every child and adult on this site. And on that note...
With love and hope and a warm welcome,
Dr. Amy
"Please take a deep breath, and stopping running as fast as you can. It is a marathon, not a sprint. It is okay to slow down and take your time. There is no prize for getting there first; we just have to get there!"
The goal of this chat room is to provide very specific biomedical information, as well as the support that you need when going through
the often long journey to recovery. At first this site may seem overwhelming, because I do share information that is at a highly technical level. Please do not be overwhelmed! We will all work together to help to get you the answers you need. This does not mean that I have the answer to everything; far from it. There are many capable doctors and parents who have healed their children, or the children of others using very different programs. That is wonderful, and I applaud any program that will help to recover a child. Even if a program helps only one child, it is worth taking notice of it. However, this is not the site to discuss every approach to deal with each issue. Time and space does not permit it. I do not want to promote individual products on this site. Because I do use the RNAs as tools, I do answer questions regarding the use of RNA, however I do not want this chat room to be a sales vehicle for any product.
One of Dr. Yasko's goals is to share my knowledge, observations and experience so that others might have the tools they need to aid in their own healing process. There are several DVDs available that help to lay the groundwork for her protocol. These include the Neurological Inflammation DVD and the Putting It All Together DVD.
Dr. Amy suggests watching the Neurological Inflammation video first. The Neurological Inflammation DVD explains the glutamate/GABA and excitotoxin issue in detail. There is a slight noise in the background of this tape. There was an autistic child putting pennies into a bank while she spoke for 3 hours; please think of it as a happy noise rather than as an annoyance.
Putting It All Together is a two DVD set that was recorded at a weekend workshop in January, 2004. The DVDs include a round table discussion with some very well informed parents of autistic children that is extremely useful. These two DVDs slowly lay the groundwork for the book, The Puzzle of Autism. This DVD will help you to comprehend some of the topics that are covered in more scientific detail in latter conferences.
Dr. Amy's Supplement Guide. In this 2 DVD set, she reviews most of the supplements used in her protocol and explains her personal rationale for the use of these supplements when designing a custom supplement plan. The more recent use of nutrigenomic testing in her practice and the customized Methylation Pathway Analysis reports (MPA) based on the nutrigenomic test results help define your way through Step 2 of the Program. It may be useful to review the Supplement Guide DVD to be certain that you have included any of the supplements needed for organ support (part of Step 1) prior to moving forward to Step 2. The DVDs also touch upon the role that nutrigenomics play in putting together a supplement plan.
To purchase the DVD's above please go to www.holisticheal.com OR borrow them from the Sharing Cirlce Lending Library, http://www.ch3nutrigenomics.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=37503#37503
We have a search feature, so that you can search by the term for posts that I have written on a variety of topics. This is a good starting point when you have a question, to search to see if it has already been answered at length in the past. In that way you can read what has been written, and then follow up with a new question on that topic that may be custom tailored to your individual needs. For more tips on searching please go to:
http://www.ch3nutrigenomics.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6956
I do a lot of talking about genetic testing on this site. The reason for the genetic testing is that it will help in designing a custom supplement plan. It can be ordered here: http://www.holisticheal.com/health-tests/nutrigenomic-testing
Once we have the genetic information we are in a better position to know which supplements may benefit and where the imbalances are so that we can address them to move forward. I would suggest searching under "genetic tests" on this site. Read some of the responses so that you feel more comfortable looking at these tests as the next step. I encourage you to get a better feel for the value of genetics for targeted supplementation.
To learn more about the steps involved and an overall review of the protocol please get a copy of The Puzzle of Autism Book.

Laying the foundation: http://www.ch3nutrigenomics.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=45
Most start with the 'top' supplements to layer the solid foundation needed to detox safely. The main focus is to get Gaba/glutamate balanced, Organs and minerals supported and take the time to learn the tools to recognize detox and how to control it. While most of the 'top ' supplements should not cause detox just by making some initial changes and/or stopping supplements that are not conducive to the protocol you may see some initial detox. As always you need to defer to your Doctor and as the many members say:
"Starting things low and slow is the way to go. Dr Amy always suggests the smallest amount possible on dosing, and a sprinkle is a bona-fide dose."
To order the supplements and brands that Dr Yasko prefers please go to : http://www.holisticheal.com/
Testing:
For questions on testing in general: http://www.ch3nutrigenomics.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8490
UTM/UEE to determine current level of detox and mineral levels
UAA to determine Ammonia, Amino acid , and Gaba and glutamate levels
CDSA If one has Gut and bacterial issues
MAP to determine current methylation supports.
Dr. Amy will comment only on tests that are run through her Holistic Health office at http://www.holisticheal.com/health-tests

Step 2 is also know as the Detox phase. Once there it is imperative to stay current with biochemical testing to know how to proceed in the protocol.
READ, READ, READ
| Quote: | What I ask of all of our members is to put in the time to really understand the program. This will not happen overnight, it is a slow process as you immerse yourself in all of the science. Know that you will be supported, helped and guided by other veteran members of this site to make the learning process smoother and easier. This is a program that requires that you take charge of your own, or your child's health. We will share the tools and the support you need to get there, but you are going to have to put in the time and the work to get your arms around this program. You will need to read the books, watch the DVDs, come to conferences and search and read older posts. No one is going to be able to do that for you. Basically you need to do your homework, but we will be right there to support you along the way. When we say [i]read it, learn it, live it we really mean it on this site, and assume that you will abide by that principle.
